Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups BBQ sauce I use Sweet Baby Ray's
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts

Instructions

  • Mix the Sauce
In a medium bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, onion powder, and garlic powder until smooth.
  • Add the Chicken
Place the chicken breasts in a single layer at the bottom of your slow cooker.
  • Pour the Sauce
Pour the prepared BBQ mixture over the chicken, covering it completely.
  • Cook
Cover and cook on high for 2–3 hours or on low for 4–6 hours, until the chicken is tender and shreds easily.
  • Shred
Shred the chicken using two forks, either directly in the slow cooker or on a plate, then return it to the sauce.
  • Serve
Stir to coat the shredded chicken fully in the sauce. Serve in sandwiches, tacos, bowls, or however you like.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute chicken thighs.
  • Don’t overcook—check tenderness around the minimum cook time.
  • If the sauce is too thin, stir in a cornstarch slurry or reduce it separately on the stove.
  • Use a BBQ sauce you already love to match your flavor preference.
